“A potent racket with gusto, passion and a cool outlaw swagger.” -- UNCUT

“Arabian Fuzz” psychedelic sensations Al-Qasar are back with a remix of their track Ya Malak (ft. Jello Biafra) by Cape-Verdean artist Scúru Fitchádu.

A furious ritual of liberation from slavery, Scúru Fitchádu (“deep dark”, in Creole) is rage and fight, with a punk aesthetic and disruptive electronics. Deeply rooted in the African matrix, his work conveys a kind of benevolent violence, a slap-in-the-face attitude which echoes Al-Qasar’s determination to awaken our political conscience through charged lyrics and thunderous riffs.
The remix samples the Dead Kennedys’ Jello Biafra, his inimitable voice reciting a translation of Egyptian revolutionary poet Ahmed Fouad Negm. With Jello’s spoken word, the original Al-Qasar track, Ya Malak, showcased the first-ever English recording of Negm’s work.

Al-Qasar are Thomas Attar Bellier (Saz, Guitars), Sibel Durgut (Vocals), Guillaume Theoden (Bass), Sacha Viken (Drums).

Al-Qasar Paris, France

When continents collide, they make a thunderous sound. Al-Qasar create the soundtrack to that fission. Arabian fuzz, they term it, a vision that’s brazenly electric and deeply connected to its roots. The band was started in the Barbès neighborhood of Paris by producer Thomas Attar Bellier, who brought together musicians from France, Lebanon, the USA, Morocco, Algeria, Armenia and Egypt. ... more
